Are You Pregnant?
If you suspect or recently discovered you’re pregnant, we can offer help. Usually, a late period is the first sign of pregnancy, but your period can be late for other reasons too. Do you have any of these symptoms?
- Tender or swollen breasts
- Fatigue
- Frequent urination
- Light spotting
- Cramping
- Moodiness
- Food aversions
Just as every woman is different, so is every pregnancy. Some women experience every symptom, while others experience few, if any, of the symptoms listed above.
Pregnancy Testing
Your first step is to take a pregnancy test. A pregnancy test detects the pregnancy hormone known as human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in your urine.
This hormone is produced right after a fertilized egg attaches to the wall of a woman’s uterus. It’s only found in your urine if you are pregnant.
At-Home Pregnancy Tests
If you took an at-home pregnancy test, you may be wondering if you got the correct results. Some women take over-the-counter tests too early or don’t completely follow the directions. We recommend you take the test again at a clinic or health care provider. Pregnancy Centers in our area offer free pregnancy tests. Contact us if you would like more information.
You May Not Be Pregnant
Believe it or not, you can have a positive pregnancy test but not have a viable pregnancy. Viable means the pregnancy is growing and has a detectable heartbeat.
The Mayo Clinic reports that anywhere from 10 to 20% of known pregnancies end in a natural miscarriage. The number may be higher since many women miscarry before they even know they’re pregnant. Your body takes time to realize it’s no longer pregnant, so it’s entirely possible to get a positive result for several days or even weeks after a miscarriage.
The only way to confirm your pregnancy is viable and you haven’t miscarried is with an ultrasound. We can make recommendations for a free or low-cost ultrasound in your area. Contact us today.
